Websites DSO KIDS Making Music Fun Classics for Kids New York Philharmonic SEPTEMBER We are already working hard and having fun! 1st and 2nd grade have been working on reading, singing, playing, and composing pitch using solfege. 3rd grade has been working on our new rhythmic note tikatika= sixteenth notes. 4th and 5th graders are working on harmony. We started with rhythmic and will move to canons soon. 6th grade has been working on Form (see below) and 7th ans 8th grade has been reviewing how to sight read music and will be composing measures and projecting them via the ipad and Apple TV. March- MayPreK and K- Has been working so hard on their program. Please come celebrate a great year with them on May 29th at 6:30 and see thier program Frogs!
1st- has been working on rhythm reading and adding La to their solfege scale. We even got to take advantage of good weather and go on a musical Easter egg hunt. 2nd- has been traveling the world. Learning songs from Mexico, France, and Latin America. It has been fun speaking different languages with them and learning about other cultures instruments and dances. 3rd- has finished two big units: Instruments of the Orchestra and Composers 4th- Recorders have been ruling the music classroom. We have performed concerts for various classes and held recitals for one another in the outdoor classroom. We have played some great music- Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring by Bach and Ode to Joy by Beethoven for example. 5th- used the ipads to study composers from the Modern and Baroque period. Groups researched together and then presented together. After we compared the music from the two time periods. January-FebruaryPreK- have been singing some favorites- London Bridge, Hickory Dickory Dock, and many others.
Kindergarten- has been introduced to their first steps to read music. They are now practicing rhythms and reading pitches on the scale using solfege. 1st- are composers! Using their knowledge of solfege they have been setting poems and creating their own melodies. 2nd- 3rd- gets to play the xylophones and glockenspiels. We are currently developing our vocabulary of options on the instruments for future compositions. 4th and 5th are working hard of their program. We hope you come out to see it. 6th- finished their composer biography projects. 7th- using ipads to create covers of well known songs. November
PreK and Kindergarten sang lots of Turkey songs and learned musical opposites- Piano(quiet)/Forte (loud) and Largo (slow)/Presto (fast). 1st -3rd have been working hard to prepare for the Christmas program. We hope you will come join us on December 19th at 6:30. 4th and 5th studied Native American art forms and how music played a role during the Trail of Tears. 6th has been learning about time signature and meter, an important tool to help sight reading music. 7th and 8th used the ipads to create covers of beloved children songs. We explored garage band and we can't wait to start our next project. |
